Many people think that once they have taken out some Life Insurance or other protection that they can just forget about it.
Unfortunately by doing this you may find that you are firstly not paying the most competitive premium and secondly as your life circumstances change you may find that your existing cover is no longer suitable!
Whenever your life changes dramatically you should review your protection cover.
Some Examples:
- Ian and Samantha had a joint life insurance policy to protect their £100,000 mortgage. They have recently moved home and taken out a new mortgage for £130,000. Without reviewing their life insurance cover they would be left with a potential £30,000 shortfall if something was to happen to one of them!
- Tanya had an income protection policy with a monthly benefit of £1200. This will help her pay her mortgage and outgoings if she was to be incapacitated preventing her from working. Tanya is about to change jobs and also move house. As a result her salary will go up but so will her monthly mortgage payments. If Tanya didn't review her existing Income Protection she may find that she no longer has enough to cover her new mortgage payments!
In both examples it is clear that without reviewing their protection cover, major problems could develop if something was to happen.
